Generally, ID proofs in India are required for 3 objects such as Photo Identity Proof, Address Proof and Date Of Birth Proof and for this purpose, following are the national level ID proofs in India for above said 3 requirements :-
1. Pan Card : Pan Card is also one of the best National ID proof but only for 2 objects such as Photo Identity Proof and Date Of Birth Proof but it has three drawbacks. First, pan card does not contain address of pan card holder and therefore, it is not a address proof for any purpose and second, in many matters, it is not valid DOB proof. Even for reprint of pancard, pancard is not valid as DOB proof and third, many old pancards contain initials as part of the name which are not matching with even Aadhaar.
2. Aadhaar Card : Aadhaar Card is the best National ID proof for all the 3 objects such as Photo Identity Proof, Address Proof and Date Of Birth Proof but it has also one drawback. It is generally verified for specific purpose such as for pancard etc. and in maximum cases, Aadhaar Card as ID fails in verification even for very small difference.
3. Passport : Passport is one of the best National ID proof for all the 3 objects such as Photo Identity Proof, Address Proof and Date Of Birth Proof but it has two drawbacks. First, average Indian has no Passport and second, it is not small to keep readily in pocket.Conclusively, passport is the best national level ID proof and next is Aadhaar Card and at last Pan Card.
In future, Aadhaar Card will be the most important ID proof and document for all the Indians and therefore, Aadhaar Card holders should try to remove all the defects / shortcomings/ mismatchings in their Aadhaar Card by updating / correcting the data of their Aadhaar and in case of new Aadhaar Card, all the precautions should be taken for perfect and correct information .
